This was a very special event.
Rachel Bush was beloved as a person and as a poet; with 4 or maybe it was 5 collections to her name. She was an active member of writing circles, and had many good friends in literary communities. Rachel Bush passed away before her book was ready to be launched. But thanks to the kind and hard work of Victoria University Press, she was able to see and hold her collection.
The cover image of this collection is from the Séraphine Pick work White Noise 2010, and as we spread out the books across the tables, the yellowy blue horses became a part of the furniture of the launch.
For the launch, others poets read her work, they shared poetry from the new collection, and from old collections, they shared anecdotes, and described who Rachel Bush was. In their stories, and their recitation of her poems, her presence was felt in the room.
